I'm Rocky Slaughter and I love to take pictures. I was born in Redding, California and lived there for eighteen years. I developed an interest in photography in high school and fell in love with many of the different beautiful scenes in Northern California, especially through the camera lens.
Most of my work is created using the HDR (high dynamic range) format. HDR pictures are produced by layering three (or more) different photos of the same scene that were taken with different light exposures. One photo is underexposed, one is exposed correctly, and one is overexposed. When the photos are blended, it is as if you are looking at the scene with three sets of eyes and have only the perfect exposure for every square inch. We have all seen pictures taken with beautiful lighted scenes only to discover that half of the picture is missing in the shadow. The HDR technique allows all aspects of the beautiful scene to be enjoyed.
HDR processing results in lively and vibrant colors that seem almost surreal. None of my photos are manipulated with any software (with the exception of some cropping and straightening) using any technique other than the HDR layering.
Currently, I live in Boston, Massachusetts where I am attending school at Northeastern University. I return to Redding on an intermittent basis. Please fill out the form to the right if you wish to see more pictures of any particular place in the Redding area. I would be happy to take any picture to be mounted in any living room/office area near you.
